UPPER SHOALHAVEN LANDCARE COUNCIL – SPONSOR OF TRANSITION TOWNS FORUM AT TWO FIRES FESTIVAL OF ARTS AND ACTIVISM
The Upper Shoalhaven Landcare Council is an organisation consisting of representatives from each Landcare group in the upper Shoalhaven and upper Deua catchments. This enables the Landcare groups to work together, sharing information about Landcare projects and addressing some issues on a wider catchment basis.
Landcare groups in the upper Shoalhaven and upper Deua catchments consist primarily of groups of neighbouring landholders with a concern about the quality of their land.
These people volunteer their time to plan for and undertake projects to address issues such as soil erosion, degrading riparian areas, a lack of native vegetation and weeds.
Landcare is strong in the upper Shoalhaven and upper Deua catchments, with 17 groups established and addressing natural resource management issues.
To help Landcare groups in the area, the Landcare Council employs a Landcare Coordinator. It is the Coordinator's job to facilitate the communication between groups, help manage projects and provide the Landcare groups with information and technical advice when they need it. The Upper Shoalhaven Landcare Council Landcare Coordinator is based in the Southern Rivers CMA office at 42 Ryrie Street, Braidwood NSW.
The Upper Shoalhaven Landcare Council is involved in delivering the Caring for our Country funding in the region in conjunction with the Southern Rivers Catchment Management Authority.
The Upper Shoalhaven Landcare Council is pleased to sponsor the Environmental Panel, Transition Towns – Communities adapting to change. The philosophy of communities adapting to climate change and sustainability in our environment is a focus that both Landcare and Transition Towns share. With speakers John Champagne, Derek Povel and Martin Mulligan presenting the history and the creation of Transitions Towns, the afternoon at the Old Cheese Factory in Reidsdale is not to be missed.
Landcare, with Two Fires will also be unveiling the Landcare Memorial Stone – a commemoration of our Landcare heroes of the Upper Shoalhaven, and their enormous contribution to our environment. This will happen in conjunction with a walk by Elder Uncle Max.
